Mud Bugs

We had our 2nd Annual Crayfish Boil at Casa Martinez. The turn out was amazing. We had around 35 people there. We were playing washers, cornhole and horseshoes outside, and inside people were lounging and having cocktails.

It begins.......

They are still alive here, and squirming around like crazy.

My famous guac was made....

The table before....

This was the gang member crayfish trying to start a fight! lol
These guys will attach to anything...even a washer.

YUMM-O

Batch number one....There were 6 full batches!!!

Splish, Splash

A day at the pool! Will and David love their trucks, but especially love playing "Car Wash". My neighborhood pool is the best for this! Here are a few pics of a typical summer morning for us.

Trey was off swimming and playing with his friends the entire time, so i finally got a picture when we sat down to leave.
This is Aria, a little girl that we play with a lot. She is super cute and makes the best expressions.

Tournament Number Two, or It's not what you say, but how you say it.

The Red Firebirds are doing rather well. Tournament two was in Hays County. After two weeks of practicing every day and tournaments every weekend, I will say, however, that I think the coach yells a bit too much. Some say, "That's part of being on a competitive team" and some say, "they're only 8 years old, yelling is not manditory". I feel that...

"It's not what you say, but how you say it"

You could say the exact same thing in two different tones, and the kids would "hear" you differently. The kids are holding their heads down low, and not performing as well as they are capable of. I really think it is because the kids are nervous that they are going to make a mistake, which would make the Coach mad. I don't think yelling is really working for this particular team, but other than that, the coach is a very hard worker and very dedicated to his team. He really seams to enjoy spending his ENTIRE summer with 11 eight year olds, and I hope the boys know that the coach believes in them, and that he is just expressing his thoughts in a different way. Hang in there kids, this will be a lesson learned, I promise.

The kids were told to choose a nick name that would go on the back of their caps, and Trey chose Triple Threat! Here are a few of the others the kids chose....
Smack Daddy
Smoke
Slider
Mad Dog
Hollywood
Striker
I think this was a great idea! The kids love yelling "Go Smack Daddy" instead of "Let's go John".... and plus, i think it throws the other team off a bit.

Tournament Number One

Out of about 265 kids, the league chooses 36 kids to make up 5 All Star Teams. Trey made one of the teams this year and gets to travel to other leagues in Texas to represent Oak Hill. His team is the Red team..they named themselves The Red Firebirds. The kids on the team are so sweet and Trey has already made new friendships. He is usually the Second Baseman! The first tournament was against Greater East Austin.
