Tournament Number Two, or It's not what you say, but how you say it.

The Red Firebirds are doing rather well. Tournament two was in Hays County. After two weeks of practicing every day and tournaments every weekend, I will say, however, that I think the coach yells a bit too much. Some say, "That's part of being on a competitive team" and some say, "they're only 8 years old, yelling is not manditory". I feel that...

"It's not what you say, but how you say it"

You could say the exact same thing in two different tones, and the kids would "hear" you differently. The kids are holding their heads down low, and not performing as well as they are capable of. I really think it is because the kids are nervous that they are going to make a mistake, which would make the Coach mad. I don't think yelling is really working for this particular team, but other than that, the coach is a very hard worker and very dedicated to his team. He really seams to enjoy spending his ENTIRE summer with 11 eight year olds, and I hope the boys know that the coach believes in them, and that he is just expressing his thoughts in a different way. Hang in there kids, this will be a lesson learned, I promise.

The kids were told to choose a nick name that would go on the back of their caps, and Trey chose Triple Threat! Here are a few of the others the kids chose....
Smack Daddy
Smoke
Slider
Mad Dog
Hollywood
Striker
I think this was a great idea! The kids love yelling "Go Smack Daddy" instead of "Let's go John".... and plus, i think it throws the other team off a bit.
